Part 1 of 3, “Just the Basics”

Doodles On Doodles 1 of 3

They call them, “Designer Dogs.” Dictionary.com would describe these as, “A dog intentionally crossbred from two purebred dogs of different breeds, specifically to appeal to a market for certain desirable traits….”

Among these designer breeds are the doodles. They all have the wonderful traits of the poodle breed mixed with…well…up to 110 known breeds that people love.

Pet MD lists 14 of the most common doodles:

  • Goldendoodle (Golden Retreiver)
  • Bernedoodle (Bernese Mountain Dog)
  • Labradoodle (Labrador Retriever)
  • Cavapoo (Cavalier King Charles Spaniel)
  • Aussiedoodle (Australian Shepherd)
  • Sheepadoodle (Old English Sheepdog)
  • Rottle (Rottweiler)
  • Foodle (Toy Fox Terrier, Wire Fox Terrier, or Smooth Haired Fox Terrier)
  • Yorkiepoo (Yorkshire Terrier)
  • Schnoodle (Standard Schnauzer, Miniature Schnauzer, or Giant Schnauzer)
  • Shih-Poo (Shih Tzu)
  • Boxerdoodle (Boxer)
  • Irish Doodle (Irish Setter)
  • Whoodle (Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier)

Doodles are known for their enjoyable temperament and adorable coats. Because of their poodle mix, many are hypoallergenic and create little to no shedding problems. And they play!

Doodle owners can find breeds ranging from just a few pounds all the way to one-hundred plus! The cute traits we often associate with smaller dogs can also be seen in larger breeds.

Over the summer we will feature Doodles in our Aussie Pet Mobile newsletter. Doodles are some of our best friends because they also require talented grooming. Our groomers love all pets, and doodles bring a special kind of energy, friendliness, and excitement that is contagious.

We call these “Doodles On Doodles” because we are hoping to help sketch (or doodle) a mental picture of these very popular dogs that have taken the canine world by storm. Stay tuned for more “Doodles On Doodles.”
